The threat of noncitizens voting in the 2024 election is very real, despite the media’s efforts to dismiss the issue. However, it is a real problem, and in order to secure the integrity of our elections for 2024 and beyond, Republicans are championing Congressman Chip Roy’s bill, the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, HR 8281. This bill has passed the House and is introduced in the Senate by Senator Mike Lee as S. 4292.
This bill mandates proof of citizenship at the time of voter registration, addressing a critical gap in the law. A recent study by Just Facts reveals that approximately 10% to 27% of noncitizen adults in the U.S. are currently registered to vote illegally.
